Homebuyer Program Coming to Winona!
Are you hoping to buy a home one day, but find the process overwhelming? Join SEMMCHRA for a multi-session, in-depth look at homeownership. We will learn about credit scores, money management, mortgage products, real estate procedures, home inspections, home maintenance, and more. Each session will last 2 hours and focus on one topic related to purchasing a home.
Sessions will be held from 6:30-8:30 PM every Monday and Wednesday starting July 13th and running through August 29th. Classes will be held at the Winona YMCA. You must attend all 12 sessions to receive a completion certificate.
Free childcare will be provided on a first come, first served basis. Pre-registration for both the Homebuyer Club and childcare is required. Snacks and beverages will be served.

An important, but often overlooked, part of the homebuying process is attending a homebuyer education class. SEMMCHRA provides Home Stretch, an 8-hour homebuyer education class. Attending the class gives participants the opportunity to learn about the entire homebuying process from lenders, real estate agents, and housing counselors. In some cases, completing a homebuyer education class is required by lenders before you can close on your home. Buying a home is the most expensive thing most people ever purchase. Be an informed, prepared buyer with Home Stretch.
Currently, all SEMMCHRA’s Home Stretch classes are being offered online. You can take the class from the comfort of your own home. First Time Homebuyer Funds Now Available
$1,086,723.00 Available for Loans to First Time Homebuyers in Dodge, Goodhue, Wabasha, and Winona Counties
The Southeastern Minnesota Multi-County Housing and Redevelopment Authority announced that Dodge, Goodhue, Wabasha, and Winona Counties received a $1,086,723 allocation to provide homeownership opportunities through single-family mortgage revenue bonds. The mortgage offered is a 30-year, fixed rate loan. These funds are available exclusively to residents in Dodge, Goodhue, Wabasha, and Winona Counties (excluding the Cities of Red Wing and Winona) on a first come, first served basis!
Qualified first-time homebuyers who meet established income limits may be eligible to receive down payment or closing cost assistance. Funds may be used for the purchase of a new or existing home. The purchase price limit of a home is $294,600.
Homebuyer education is required for some Minnesota Housing Finance Agency loan programs. SEMMCHRA offers homebuyer education classes and homebuyer counseling services.

On-Line Homebuyer Education Classes Available from SEMMCHRA
SEMMCHRA is continuing to offer its in-person homebuyer education class, Home Stretch, on-line. Participants can get all the benefits of the in-person class without leaving home. Participants will be emailed a link to join an on-line video conference where they will be able to listen to presentations by homebuyer counselors, lenders, real estate agents, & home inspectors. Participants will also be able to ask the presenters questions during these presentations as they learn about the entire homebuying process.
Participants can choose from classes held on two weeknights from 5:30-10 PM or on two consecutive Saturdays from 8:30 AM-1 PM. Participants must attend both 4.5-hour class sessions to earn a certificate. The cost of the class is $25 and pre-registration is required.
