SEMMCHRA GOES TO ONLINE APPLICATIONS

Buffy Beranek, Deputy Director of SEMMCHRA, says “We are excited to introduce our new online application process to assist our clients and recognize efficiencies.”  Since 2013, SEMMCHRA has been working with Happy Software, Inc. to transition from a paper application to an online application process.  SEMMCHRA is scheduled to open the online application process on May 1, 2014 at 8am. Applicants can apply for Section 8 Rental Assistance, Market Rate, and Low-income Housing by going to www.waitlistcheck.com/mn197, which is available at their convenience 24/7.  This will help our agency to better serve our applicants, and to cut cost and labor associated with traditional paper application taking.

Once the applicant has successfully submitted an application, he/she can now check the status online within 24-48 hours by going to www.hmsforweb.com/owl/login.php.  Applicants can utilize this site to not only check the status of their application, but they can also view their position on the waiting list.

For more information, please contact Manager, Tammy Moyer at 651-565-2638, ext. 210.

Rental Assistance

SEMMCHRA is able to provide citizens in the counties of Dodge, Fillmore, Goodhue, Houston, Wabasha and Winona (excluding the Cities of Red Wing and Winona) with safe, sanitary, decent and affordable housing to very low income rental households.

Section 8 Rental Assistance
Section 8 is a federal housing program funded through the Department of Housing and Urban Development. The HRA has operated HUD's program since 1979. This program provides affordable rent to eligible applicants who rent units in the private sector.

The program is open to low-income individuals without regard to race, color, religion, national origin, gender or status regarding public assistance. Rent is based on 30% of the household's adjusted gross income. Program participants select a privately owned house, apartment, duplex or mobile home. Inspections are conducted to ensure that subsidized housing units meet minimum life safety standards.
Our service area consists of Dodge, Fillmore, Goodhue, Houston, Wabasha, and Winona Counties (excluding the Cities of Red Wing and Winona).  For more information, email Tammy Moyer at tammyhra@wabasha.net or call 651-565-2638 extension 210.

Family Self-Sufficiency Program

The Family Self-Sufficiency Program is geared toward helping low income families achieve financial independence by removing the barriers that prevent self-sufficiency. These barriers may include lack of transportation, childcare or budgeting. SEMMCHRA is able to offer assistance by connecting families with support services and resources in their communities. The program also offers a financial incentive by establishing an accessible escrow savings account.  For more information, email Emily Laffrenzen at programhra@wabasha.net or call 651-565-2638 extension 209.

Public Housing
Public Housing is a federal housing program that is funded through the Department of Housing and Urban Developement. Rent subsidies are provided to households living in public housing units. Apartments are available to low and moderate income households and for the elderly.

SEMMCHRA owns and manages public housing units. Units in the service area include Maple Grove in Wabasha and 25 scattered site units located throughout Dodge, Goodhue and Wabasha Counties. Single, two, three and four bedroom units are available to public housing participants.  Email Janeen Sampson at janhra@wabasha.net or call 651-565-2638 extension 203.
