SEMMCHRA
is able to provide citizens in the counties of Dodge, Fillmore,
Houston, Wabasha and Winona with safe, sanitary, decent and affordable
housing to very low income rental household.
Section 8 Rental Assistance
Section 8 is a federal housing program funded through the Department
of Housing and Urban Development. The HRA has operated HUD's program
since 1979. THis program provides affordable rent to eligible applicants
who rent units in the private sector.
The program is open to low-income individuals without regard to
race, color, religion, national origin, gender or status regarding
public assistance. Rent is based on 30% of the household's adjusted
gross income. Program participants select a privately owned house,
apartment, duplex or mobile home. Inspections are conducted to ensure
that subsidized housing units meet minimum life safety standards.
Family Self-Sufficiency Program
The Family Self-Sufficiency Program is geared toward helping low
income families achieve financial independence by removing the barriers
that prevent self-sufficiency. These barriers may include lack of
transportation, childcare or budgeting. SEMMCHRA is able to offer
assistance by connecting families with support services and resources
in their communities. The program also offers a financial incentive
by establishing an accessible escrow savings account.
Public Housing
Public Housing is a federal housing program that is funded through
the Department of Urban Developement. Rent subsidies are provided
to households living in public housing un its. Apartments are available
to low and moderate income households and for the elderly.
SEMMCHRA owns and manages public housing units. Units in the service
area include Maple Grove in Wabasha and 25 scattered site units
located throughout Dodge, Goodhue and Wabasha Counties. Single,
two, three and four bedroom units are available to public housing
participants.
